Nobody can quote a greenhouse honestly from a single question. The cost of building a greenhouse in Nigeria is the sum of six line items, and each one moves with your size, crop and site. Here is the breakdown we use, so you can budget properly instead of guessing.
The six cost lines in every greenhouse build
- Structure and frame. Size, span type and material gauge. This is usually the largest single line.
- Cover. Solarig or UV nylon film, priced by area, micron and width.
- Insect netting. Side walls and vents, priced by area and mesh count.
- Fixing accessories. Interlocking profiles, wringles or springs, joiners and end caps.
- Irrigation. Drip tape, filter, fittings and the water source connection.
- Labour, site preparation and transport to site.
What pushes the total up or down
Size does not scale cost linearly. A longer house shares the same end walls, so cost per square metre usually drops as you extend length rather than adding separate small houses.
Site condition matters. Levelling, drainage and access for a truck can add real cost on a difficult plot, and none of it shows in a materials-only quote.
Crop drives specification. A high-value crop justifies 50 mesh netting, thicker film and a filtered drip system. A trial plot may not.
Phasing the spend
Growers on a tight budget often build the structure and cover first, then add the full drip and fertigation set-up before the next cycle. That works as long as the frame is specified for the final plan, so you are not rebuilding later.
What we advise against phasing is the fixing accessories. Skipping proper profiles and wringles to save a small amount is the most common reason a cover fails early.
